Broccoli Bacon Salad

Broccoli Bacon Salad for Your Summer Table

I remember having Broccoli Bacon Salad for the first time when I was a young girl.  Someone told me what was in it and I remember thinking they were insane to put those ingredients together and think that someone would eat it.  Then I tasted it, out of politeness.  I was hooked.  Who would think that fresh, raw broccoli, mixed with onion, crispy bacon, and raisins would taste good?  Well, I switched up some of the ingredients a bit to make it fresh, and cater to the tastes of my family, but it’s the same basic recipe I was given so long ago.

Preparing Broccoli for Broccoli Bacon Salad

Fresh broccoli can need a bit of attention before you use it in the Broccoli Bacon Salad, especially if you’ve purchased it from a farmer’s market or harvested from your garden.  Cutting the florets apart and running them through a quick bath of cold water and ¼ cup white vinegar rids the broccoli of any unwanted guests that are hitching a ride.  I do this with even the broccoli that I purchase at the grocery store.  It does a great job removing dirt and pesticides too.  Another quick rinse in water and there’s no residual vinegar flavor left, leaving you with perfectly washed broccoli for your Broccoli Bacon Salad.

Broccoli Bacon Salad for a Crowd

It’s easy to double, triple, or even quadruple Broccoli Bacon Salad for a crowd.  Grab a few heads of broccoli and multiply the ingredients by how many people you want to feed.  The original recipe is enough for 4-6 servings.  I love to make this salad for a gathering, no matter the season, as it has a fresh taste, and crisp bite that everyone enjoys.  Grab the ingredients and make this wonderful Broccoli Bacon Salad for your family tonight!

  5. Your salad looks wonderful! I like the addition of the dried blueberries in this delicious salad. They would be such a great contrast with the bacon. Washing veggies in a vinegar rinse is a really good idea, especially when you are using them raw.
