Brylane Home: West Bend Slow Cooker Review and Giveaway

Do you love to Slow Cook?  I have ham in the slow cooker right now, it will make for some yummy ham and biscuits for dinner.  Slow cookers are so versatile.  This West Bend 5-Qt Slow Cooker With Insulated Tote And Lid is one of the most versatile slow cookers I have ever used.  I have a couple of slow cookers in my collection, but this one allows me to travel with my entire slow cooker so much easier than any other that I have used.  I also LOVE that the base becomes a griddle.

So, when I first opened the box from Brylane Home with this slow cooker, I immediately fell in love with the color.  The green is more of a true green than it may show in my pictures above.  I know, color isn’t THAT important.  I decided to put it to the test.  I made chicken and dumplings.

To make the chicken and dumplings, it takes a couple of steps.  I needed to poach the chicken in the broth, take the chicken out and cut it into chunks.  I then needed to strain the liquid and return it all to the slow cooker.  This is where the West Bend slow cooker shined.  The temperature recovery on my other slow cookers was very slow.  But with this one, I was able to put the temperature dial to 5 and it quickly recovered to a temperature acceptable to drop my dumplings.

One other feature that we have loved is the lid and carrying case.  There is a glass lid, but there is also a tight fitting plastic lid that you can snap on for more secure transport of your goodies.  But that lid is also PERFECT for saving your goodies in the fridge after dinner is over.  No need to find another container to transfer the leftovers.  LOVED THAT!

Also, as you can see from the above picture, the base doubles as a griddle when you don’t have the cooking pot on it.  I used it “Grill” some garlic-buttered buns to go with dinner.  The base isn’t super big, so you couldn’t do enough for a whole family at one time, but it does work and works well for a couple of people.

The West Bend 5-Qt Slow Cooker With Insulated Tote And Lid retails at Brylane Home for $99.99, but is currently on sale for $69.99.  Just head over HERE To check it out.
