Caprese Salad on a Stick Main

Caprese Salad on a Stick is a fabulous dish for fun appetizer nights, parties, or a healthy snack.  There’s so much taste on these little sticks, you don’t need to add much to the three ingredients, except maybe a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Fresh Basil Makes Caprese Salad on a Stick Delectable

If you don’t have fresh basil in your garden, or a pot on your windowsill, look for it in the produce section of your local grocery.  I’m horrible about keeping herbs alive, so I personally rely on the Aerogarden to keep me in fresh herbs all the time.  Take a look at my current Basil garden:

If you don’t have a garden or an Aerogarden for fresh basil, you can always look at your grocery store.  Fresh herbs make fantastic recipes even better, and Caprese Salad on a Stick is one of those recipes.  If the herb is a little limp, simply cut the stem cleanly and place in a glass of very cold water for 30 minutes.  The basil will be fresh and beautiful, making your Caprese Salad on a Stick even better.

Fresh Mozzarella for your Caprese Salad on a Stick

I love fresh mozzarella, but the first time I found it, I had no idea what I was doing or what to even look for.  Any type of fresh mozzarella will work in Caprese Salad on a Stick, but I choose to purchase the smaller “cherry size” rounds of fresh mozzarella in my grocer’s better cheese section of the produce department.  Some retailers sell it fresh, where you can choose however much you’d like, or you can also find it prepackaged.  I used the prepackaged for this recipe, with some beautiful looking cherry tomatoes.

Caprese Salad on a Stick ~ An Amazing Addition to Any Meal

  • 1 container fresh mozzarella (cherry size or cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 container cherry tomatoes, sliced in half
  • fresh basil leaves, cut into halves or quarters, depending on size
  • Picks, such as toothpicks or hors d'oeuvres picks

  1. Fold the basil leaves so they fit easily over top of the mozzarella. Slide onto a pick.
  2. Slide a piece of mozzarella on, followed by a tomato.
  3. Press the three ingredients together, toward the end of the pick if you are going to set them upright, or stick them into Styrofoam or a handy vegetable.
  4. Serve with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Caprese Salad on a Stick Makes a Meal

Caprese Salad on a Stick takes a meal from great to fabulous in an instant.  These little gems are fast to make and delicious to eat, perfect on a hot summer night when you need a bite to eat before it cools down.  They are also great on appetizer nights, where everything on the table is an appetizer.  Kids love these nights and they make for a great way to try a lot of new things.

Next time you want something quick and easy, or just something delicious and good for you, break out the cheese, tomatoes, and basil and thread together some Caprese Salad on a Stick.
