Devotional: Come Ye Sinners
I am often surprised at how much of my devotional time happens when thoughts are triggered by music. Today, it was Andrew Agnew’s version of Come Ye Sinners.
I have to say, I have probably heard this song a gazillion (exaggeration) times. But today, it brought a tear to my eye! The part that touched me the most – “True belief and true repentance, Every grace that brings you nigh”. Sounds so simple, right…until you realize the True Belief and the True Repentance is of Grace.
Ephesians 2 NKJV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
What an Amazing Grace!
Come ye sinners, poor and needy
Weak and wounded, sick and sore
Jesus ready stands to save you
Full of pity, love, and power
Come ye thirsty, come and welcome
God’s free bounty glorify
True belief and true repentance
Every grace that brings you nigh
I will arise and go to Jesus
He will embrace me in His arms
In the arms of my dear Savior
Oh, there are ten thousand charms
Come ye weary, heavy-laden
Lost and ruined by the fall
If you tarry until you’re better
You will never come at all
