Easy Stromboli

Easy Stromboli, Calzone, or Sausage Roll: What’s the Difference?

I love them all, but there are subtle differences in them.  They all have a great pizza crust, and they all have gooey cheese, but that’s kind of where things end.  Strombolis are filled with meats such as sausage, ground beef, and pepperoni, along with a smattering of rich tomato sauce.  Calzones are filled with cheeses.  Ooey, gooey cheeses like ricotta, parmesan, and mozzarella.  Whenever I’ve had a calzone, the sauce was on the side, to be dipped in.  A Sausage Roll is just that: pizza dough wrapped around a lot of sausage and a bit of sauce, baked to perfection.  I was in the mood for Easy Stromboli, so I gathered the ingredients and had a beautiful dinner.

What Makes Easy Stromboli Easy

Usually I make pizza crust from scratch, but I decided to take the easy way out.  I bought a Pillsbury pizza crust in the dairy section.  It made a great Easy Stromboli, with a crisp crust.  I filled my Easy Stromboli with ground beef and mild Italian sausage, browned and drained, as well as turkey pepperoni, finely shredded mozzarella, and homemade tomato sauce.  I wrapped it all together and baked it to perfection.  The result was a beautiful and delicious Easy Stromboli that the whole family enjoyed.

Other Fillings for Easy Stromboli

If you’d like to change things up, use your imagination!  Fill your Easy Stromboli with the meats that you love.  Try some thinly sliced leftover steak or chicken, pair it with some sauted onions and peppers for a fajita flavor.  Or maybe grilled chicken and barbecue sauce for a BBQ Chicken Easy Stromboli.  One of my favorite combinations is turkey pepperoni and pineapple tidbits.  Sweet and savory all in one pretty little pocket.  The possibilities are endless, and only limited by your imagination.  Put your favorite flavors together for the perfect Easy Stromboli on a weeknight.
