Pizza sauce is an amazingly simple thing to make with a few herbs and some tomato sauce.  I always keep a few jars of tomato sauce on hand just for the occasion that we have pizza.  Make the sauce first, so that it can soak up the flavors of the herbs and make a delicious sauce that rivals your favorite local pizzeria!

  • 2 C Gluten-Free Baking Mix, such as Pamela's
  • 1/2 C shortening
  • 2/3 C milk
  • 4 oz turkey pepperoni, chopped fine
  • 1 C shredded mozzarella
  • 1/4 t marjoram
  • 1/4 t oregano
  • Sauce:
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/2 t oregano
  • 1/4 t marjoram
  • 1/4 t garlic powder


  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees F and grease muffin 10 muffin cups.
  2. Mix the baking mix and shortening well. Add milk and mix until incorporated.
  3. Add the pepperoni, cheese, and herbs, mixing well.
  4. Fill muffin cups completely.
  5. Bake 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
  6. For the sauce, mix the tomato sauce and herbs. Let sit to let the flavors bloom.

Can I Make Gluten Free Pizza Muffins with Gluten?

Absolutely!  Instead of using the Gluten-Free Baking Mix, use Jiffy or Bisquick.  Mix 2 cups of the mix with 2/3 cup milk and follow the rest of the recipe for amazing pizza muffins.  Same easy recipe with just as much flavor.

These muffins are a real crowd pleaser.  You can make them up in advance and refrigerate them, warming them in some aluminum foil when you are ready to serve them.  Next time you want a snack, appetizer, or even a great light meal, make up a batch of Gluten Free Pizza Muffins.

    • Absolutely! And for people that are not on a gluten free diet, you can use any biscuit mix. Just follow the recipe for their drop biscuits, adding in the seasonings, pepperoni, and cheese!

    This recipe caught my eye, because I’ve been kind of staying away from gluten the past 2 weeks. Not because I particularly have too, haven’t gotten diagnosed with anything, but I just wanted to give it a try and see how I feel.

    I’ve been on a personal 40 day challenge to get more healthy, and staying away from carbs, especially gluten has been on the top of my list. However some days I still CRAVE me some carbs, omg… :)

    SOOOO these look pretty darn fantastic. I can literally smell the yummines. I would love to give them a try. I’m sure my kids will love them too!!

  14. I am so glad you did a post about gluten free. I was hoping I was wrong but I have determined that I am gluten intolerant. I have tried some mixes that were just awful but never thought to add herbs or sauce, let alone cheese and meat to the mix.
