Blueberry Buckle

Heavenly Blueberry Buckle

It’s fresh blueberry time!  That means everything blueberry at my house, and Blueberry Buckle is high on the priority list!  Imagine a rich cake absolutely stuffed with fresh sweet blueberries, then topped with a crispy, crunch crumble topping that is simply mouthwatering.  That’s my Blueberry Buckle!  Here’s the secret though: it’s SUPER easy to make.  I can whip up Blueberry Buckle in about 10 minutes and have it in the oven for a fantastic dessert that’s ready after the dinner dishes are done.  Paired with some vanilla ice cream, Blueberry Buckle is an elegant dessert for any occasion.

Fresh Delicious Ingredients for Blueberry Buckle

There are two or three ingredients in Blueberry Buckle that I change up from time to time, but the rest is always the same.  I start with real butter, flour, cane sugar, and an egg.  The original recipe I have, which has been handed down in my family for a few generations, calls for milk, but I sometimes use buttermilk for a richer texture to the baked Blueberry Buckle.  I also change up my spices.  Sometimes I use cinnamon and nutmeg, but I have a few friends that are allergic to cinnamon, so I substitute cardamom instead.  It pairs well with the nutmeg and gives you a slightly different flavor that you can’t quite figure out, but tastes amazing.  The final ingredient is, of course, blueberries.  Fresh, plump blueberries are a wonderful finish to this Blueberry Buckle.

Blueberry Buckle?  How about Raspberry Buckle?

That’s right!  You can change up your Blueberry Buckle with pretty much any berry you can find.  Sometimes I use raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, and even boysenberries.  One of my favorite things to do is to mix up the berries with whatever is in season, for a fantastic Berry Buckle that everyone will love.  Grab the berries you find at farmer’s market or your favorite grocery store and make Blueberry Buckle for dessert!
