How to Fold a Fitted Sheet

How to Fold a Fitted Sheet – The (former) Bane of my Existence

Ok, I admit it.  I’ve gotten so frustrated trying to fold a fitted sheet that I wad it up and throw it in the linen closet.  How the heck are you supposed to fold the thing to look like what it did when it came all crisply folded out of the package you bought it in?  It was common knowledge with the kids to leave mommy alone while folding sheets.  But now, with a little help, I’ve figured out how to fold those darn things and keep my linen closet looking all pretty and organized, even if it is only for the 5 minutes after I get things put away.  My secret is a video I found on YouTube by Martha Stewart.  Now, all my sheets look beautiful!

How to Fold a Fitted Sheet Instructions

I fold mine slightly different than shown in the video, only because the third and fourth corners have always confused me.  So here is how I do it, with my changes.

1.  Hold the sheet by placing your hands in the pockets of the corners, with the sheet inside-out.

2.  Place one corner over the other, matching the points and rolling the fabric so the edges match.  Straighten the rest of the fabric to the other side.

3.  Gently set down the matched corners and repeat with the other end of the sheet.

4.  Place a set of folded corners on each hand and place one over the other, matching points and rolling the fabric so the edges match.  Straighten edges.

5.  Lay the fabric down on a flat surface such as a clean table.  Fold the open edges of the sheet so you have a square.

6.  Fold in thirds, keeping the open edge to the center, then fold in half or thirds in the other direction.

7.  Smooth out the fabric and you have a beautifully folded sheet!

Keeping Your Closet Neat Besides Knowing How to Fold a Fitted Sheet

I take it one step further and package a set of sheets into one of the pillow cases so all I need for a quick change of sheets is to pull out a bundle and everything is right there!  I’ve taught the kids to do this, as it keeps their closets all nice and neat too!  So, now you don’t have to fight the fitted sheet nightmare anymore.  You know How to Fold a Fitted Sheet!
