How You Can Help to Give a Child a Smile

Have you heard of Operation Smile? They are a non-profit organization that helps to heal the smiles of children who are born with cleft lips. Since 1982 they have performed over 200,000 surgeries to repair cleft lips of children in third world countries.

They feel that if they can give a child a smile, they can change their lives – and I completely agree! They have hundreds of mobile medical teams that travel to where the children are to perform these delicate surgeries.

It states on their website, “We believe that all children deserve to live their lives with dignity. And for those suffering from cleft lip, cleft palate or other facial deformities, dignity begins with a smile.”

There are so many ways that you can get involved in their cause. You can volunteer on the medical team, they have student youth programs that allow for children to build awareness and raise funds in their communities, and they accept monetary donations.

If you are a college student, you should check out Campus Book Rentals. They donate a portion of their proceeds to Operation Smiles, so it’s a way to contribute in a small way to a big cause!

Campus Book Rentals is a site where you can rent your textbooks for 40% to 90% less than it would cost to purchase them. You can find out more about them here.
