The Simplicity That Is Nutella Cream Cheese Frosting
Frosting is really a simple thing to make. Sugar, usually confectioners, and some type of fat, many times butter, combine to make the base of a good frosting. Add in a flavoring and you have a real treat to tempt the taste buds. When I made a batch of average, yellow cake cupcakes this past week, I wanted to come up with something just a little bit different. So at the prompting of a daughter’s suggestion, out came the Nutella and Nutella Cream Cheese Frosting was born.
Everything is Better with Nutella Cream Cheese Frosting
Ok, maybe not everything, but many things are better! Nutella Cream Cheese Frosting isn’t just good on cake. With the leftover frosting I had, I tried it on toast (amazing!), strawberries (luscious!), and even on French toast (oooh la la!) and it made everything better! The rich, smooth texture melts on warm things like toast and French toast, and spreads on strawberries beautifully, making plain old chocolate covered strawberries merely edible. Spread Nutella Cream Cheese Frosting on your shortcake or pound cake before covering in strawberries and whipped cream for a delicious change to your everyday Strawberry Shortcake.
- 1 8 oz pkg cream cheese, softened
- 1 C Nutella
- 3 C confectioner's sugar
- Beat the cream cheese and Nutella together until smooth.
- Add in the confectioners sugar, 1/2 C at a time, until the frosting is the desired consistency. Additional sugar may be necessary.
- Frost your cupcakes or use as a spread. Refrigerate any leftovers.
Why the Fascination with Nutella Cream Cheese Frosting?
Really, we should ask the question of why the fascination with Nutella. I’ve seen Nutella in the stores for years and actually had a friend that put it on just about anything. I was never interested. Hazelnut and chocolate in a spread? No thank you. Then, my daughter had some at a friend’s house and was enthralled, so of course we picked some up on a shopping trip. One taste and I was hooked. It became a game to see what else we could do with it, and someone said frosting. YES! I can do that! So Nutella Cream Cheese Frosting was created. And it was loved. The cupcakes went faster than any other I’ve made, and the extra frosting didn’t last much longer.
