Peanut Butter Easter Eggs are one of those traditional treats during the Easter season.  But why buy them from the store when you can have a fun afternoon with your kids making these delectable treats?  Grab your favorite peanut butter, some cream cheese, and chocolate candy coating and make some memories.

Creamy or Crunchy for Peanut Butter Easter Eggs?

Well, that’s a good question for you!  If you like the peanut butter, you’ll like it in Peanut Butter Easter Eggs.  So whether you are a crunchy peanut butter family or a creamy one, you’ll love the eggs that you make with your favorite treat.

The chocolate you use makes a difference too.  You need to like the chocolate if you’re going to love the Peanut Butter Easter Eggs.  While chocolate chips are pretty good, and what I used here, if you’d like something that doesn’t melt in your hand, try a chocolate candy bark or disks.  They will be a bit harder shelled which will make them sturdier and they won’t melt in your hands as quickly.  Candy bark can be easily melted in the microwave, which makes it easier to deal with warm as well.  Make sure to look for a quality candy bark.

Allergic to Peanuts?  Substitute in Peanut Butter Easter Eggs!

I know a lot of people are allergic to peanuts, but can eat other butters, such as almond, cashew or even sunflower.  Substitute the ones you can eat, or just love, for the peanut butter.  Your result will be just as amazing and delicious.

  • 1 8 oz pkg cream cheese, softened
  • 2 C peanut butter
  • 2 C powdered sugar
  • 12 oz chocolate chips or candy bark


  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese and peanut butter until smooth. Add the powdered sugar and mix in well.
  3. Form small balls of a heaping teaspoon of the peanut butter mixture. Form into an egg and place on the baking sheet. Continue with the remaining peanut butter mixture.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about an hour.
  5. Melt the chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave. Once melted, dip each peanut butter egg into the chocolate, turning it once and lifting it back out with a fork. Place on the parchment and continue with the rest of the eggs.
  6. To set the chocolate, place back in the freezer for a few minutes.

Peanut Butter Easter Eggs Aren’t Just for Easter!

If you love the deliciousness of chocolate and peanut butter year round, don’t just keep these for Easter!  I love to make Peanut Butter Easter Eggs in mini cupcake papers, “painting” the paper with chocolate and a spoon, then dropping small balls of peanut butter cream into them and covering them with more chocolate.  They are fantastic and a great treat!

This year, fill the Easter baskets with grass and jellybeans, but don’t forget the Peanut Butter Easter Eggs!
