From Pork Roast to Pork Chop ~ Taking Advantage of Pork Loin Sales

Pork loin goes on sale from time to time, making it an economical choice for your grilling pleasures.  But what can you do with that much pork loin?  Whole loins run in the 5 to 6 lb range, which, unless you have a huge family, is a bit much for a family to eat in one, or even two, sittings.   So, a way to take advantage of those great sales on pork loins is to cut part of one into beautiful thick pork chops, and use the remaining as a roast later on.  That gives you at least two different meals from one pork loin!

Easy Cut, Easy Roast from a Single Pork Loin

If you’ve never sliced your own pork chops, all you need is a cutting board and a very sharp knife.  The beauty of slicing your own pork chops is you can slice them as thick or thin as you like.  I love mine about an inch thick.  Place the pork loin on the cutting board and slice it in half.  Place one half in a gallon size plastic zippy bag for later use.  Carefully slice the rest into pork chops at the thickness of your choosing.

Seasoning Pork Loin

With my pork chops, I seasoned them with a little bit of barbeque rub and let them sit for a few minutes to let it sink in a bit.  Then I grill them on low, basting them with my favorite barbeque sauce until it’s caramelized on the edges.  It’s an amazingly simple and delicious meal that both kids and adults will love.  Pork loin, no matter what the cut, does well with just about any flavor, from teriyaki to simple salt and pepper.  Coating it with a bit of seasoning and letting it sit will allow the flavor to sink deep into the meat will give your pork loin a delicious flavor from the first bite to the last.  You can even flavor the meat and freeze it for later use, which lets the flavor go even deeper!

Next time you see pork loin on sale, don’t look at it and think it’s too much for you to eat in one sitting.  Look at it and think pork chops, pork roast, and even pork kabobs!  Buy several and slice them up, freezing them for later, and save yourself a lot of money with pork loin on sale!
