Red Velvet Latte at Home

I love making coffee house drinks at home.  It saves me tons of money, plus I know what’s going into the drink.  So when I found some Red Velvet Cake sprinkles in the cake decorating aisle, I knew I had to make a Red Velvet Latte.  I’d recently had one at my favorite coffee house, and of course, I had watched how they made it.  I think a Red Velvet Latte is going to be my drink of choice for a little while.  At least until pumpkin season comes along.  You can make your Red Velvet Latte as sweet or not as you like with the addition of a little sugar to the mix.

Common Ingredients for Red Velvet Latte

The only fancy ingredient you need for a Red Velvet Latte is the red velvet sprinkles.  Besides coffee, I used some hot cocoa mix (salted caramel flavor) for the wonderful chocolate flavor of a red velvet cake.  Half and half, heated in the microwave, was the perfect addition to the Red Velvet Latte to give it that beautiful light color and creamy flavor.  To top my Red Velvet Latte, I used whipped cream, although I cheated with the stuff in the can, as well as a bit of Torani caramel syrup.  You can find Torani toppings in either the ice cream topping aisle or in with the coffee flavoring syrups.  It’s a great syrup to keep on hand for any time you need a bit of caramel flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 C hot coffee
  • ¼ C half n half
  • 2 T hot cocoa powder
  • whipped cream
  • caramel syrup
  • red velvet cake sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Heat the half n half in the microwave for about 1 to 2 minutes, until it’s steamy, but not simmering.
  2. Place the coffee in your favorite cup. Mix in the heated half n half and cocoa powder.
  3. Top with whipped cream.
  4. Drizzle the caramel syrup over the whipped cream and sprinkle the red velvet cake sprinkles on top.
  5. Enjoy!

Red Velvet Latte To Go

Even on days when I’m on the run, it’s pretty darn easy to make a Red Velvet Latte in a to go cup.  I always have one or two on hand for such adventures.  You can skip the whipped cream if you want, making it easier to put the lid on, or you can make it with skim or 2% milk if you want to lessen the calorie load.  So grab your cup and make a Red Velvet Latte!
