Facebook Meme Creates Framed Sayings Opportunity

My Framed Sayings were born from a Facebook meme that I happened upon, where you commented in the post, and the person who posted it will give you a creative gift sometime during the year:

“I just joined in the 2013 Creative Pay It Forward: the first 5 people to comment on this status will receive from me, sometime in this calendar year, a gift- perhaps a book, or baked goods, or a candle, music- a surprise! There will likely be no warning and it will happen whenever the mood strikes me. The catch? Those 5 people must make the same offer in their FB status! :) Ok, GO!”

I don’t normally respond to such things, but this one sounded like a lot of fun, and I love surprising people with little things that I’ve made for them.  So, of course I commented on it and posted it myself, upping the ante to 12 people, one for each month.

I started to think what I could give each of my friends that would be personal and handmade, that they could enjoy for a while, and I happened upon some frames that I purchased on sale.  I paid about $1.50 each for them, and had them stacked in a box.  I also had scraps left over from several paper projects, such as scrapbooking and cards.  I grabbed a stack of it all and started in on making Framed Sayings for my January and February friends.

Framed Sayings: Find the Right Words

The ice cream saying came from a bundle of preprinted vellum that I had purchased.  The other saying came from searching on the internet for quotes, based on what my friend enjoys.  I happened to have some vellum for my printer from previous crafts, so I set it up in a word processor and printed it in a pretty font.

I mixed and matched the papers, looking for colors that brought out things in the others.  The ribbons on the ice cream framed sayings was simple to do, yet made a big impact.  Choose the ribbons that you like and adhere them with a bit of white glue.  Think outside the box and don’t limit yourself to what goes in the frame.  You can decorate the frame itself too, or the matting if there is any.  Be creative and keep your recipient in mind.

Framed Sayings are a wonderful way to decorate your home or make gifts for others without having to spend a whole lot of money.  With frames found on sale or even in garage sales and thrift shops, you can use up scraps of paper, ribbons, and trinkets to make a beautiful art piece, custom tailored to the person you give it to, making it a cherished item for them.

  1. I love these. We always try to make gifts for holiday’s or special occasions. So now I have a new item to make. I think it means more to give a handmade gift then to just buy something. Thanks for sharing!
