Fresh garden tomatoes and fresh mozzarella make for a delicious and cooling salad that’s perfect for hot summer nights when you don’t want to cook. The salad is simple to make and with a few basic ingredients, you can have a fabulous salad in minutes. But here’s the twist: chopped avocado makes the dish even better. Ripe avocados, with their creamy texture and buttery flavor, lend another dimensions to the simple Tomato Mozzarella Salad. Even if your family is on the fence about avocados, try putting them in the salad for a twist.

Tomato Mozzarella Salad: Using Herbs to Season

If you have an herb garden (or friend with a plentiful one), you can easily season Tomato Mozzarella Salad! Basil, oregano, parsley, and even fennel are fantastic in this dish. I’ve used just about everything from my herb garden to give Tomato Mozzarella Salad a delicious, fresh, and earthy flavor. My kids love it when I put in triple curled parsley because they say it tickles their tongue. Tomato Mozzarella Salad ~ With a Twist!


  • 2 pints mixed tomatoes (cherry, grape, pear, garden)
  • 1 container fresh mozzarella, cherry size
  • 1 avocado, flesh diced
  • 3 T mixed fresh herbs
  • ¼ C extra virgin olive oil
  • ¼ C vinegar


  1. Cut the tomatoes into bite sized pieces.
  2. Place the tomatoes, mozzarella, and avocado in a bowl. Add the herbs, oil, and vinegar.
  3. Season with salt and pepper if desired.
  4. Mix gently and chill before serving.

Dressings for Tomato Mozzarella Salad

I typically use a simple dressing of olive oil and vinegar for Tomato Mozzarella Salad. Many times I change up what vinegar I use to add a different flavor to the mix. Apple cider, white wine, and red wine vinegars are some of my favorites. I’ve even tried a raspberry wine vinegar which added great flavor along with a bit of sweetness. Try what you like and see what works for your family. They are sure to love Tomato Mozzarella Salad when you add your own touch!
