world's fudgiest brownies fudgy chewy brownie recipe

World’s Fudgiest Brownies are at your fingertips!  Ok, I don’t know for CERTAIN these are the fudgiest, but they are AWESOME!  I am a recent convert from the box mix brownies.  My friend Juliana opened my eyes to the yumminess that is homemade brownies from scratch.  The only ones I had tried to make from scratch had required me to use a double boiler and baker’s chocolate bars.  This just doesn’t fit into my lifestyle.

Unlike Juliana’s recipe where I could mix the dry ingredients together and keep on the shelf and add the wet ingredients whenever and then bake, these require the dry ingredients to stay separate.  The reason why, is because you are going to use boiling water on the dry ingredients BEFORE you mix the flour in.  Less gluten is formed by just mixing the flour in at the last minute and it keeps the brownie amazingly fudgy.

I made these brownies last night.  My husband said they are the best brownies he ever tasted.  That made me so happy, seeing as how easy it was to do.  And then today the kids each got a brownie in their lunch.  They don’t know about it yet, but I bet they will be super surprised.

So here is how it all goes down.  Note that the oil is added in 2 different steps.  So, the full amount of oil is 2/3 cup.

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour (or) spray a 9x13 inch pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together the cocoa and baking soda. Add 1/3 cup vegetable oil and boiling water.
  3. Mix until well blended and thickened. It will come together like fudge. Stir in the sugar, eggs, and remaining 1/3 cup oil.
  4. Finally, add the flour, vanilla and salt; mix just until all of the flour is absorbed. Spread evenly into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 - 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool, which is the hardest part, before you cut into squares.

What I love most about brownies, is that they are so easy to customize.  I love chopped nuts (any nuts will do, but pecans are my favorite).  So with these World’s Fudgiest Brownies, I make them two ways.  Over one half, I sprinkle chopped nuts and slightly stir them in.  On the other half, I sprinkle chocolate chips and slightly stir them in.  (My girls like the chocolate chip side.)

So, how easy is that?  If you like fudgy, chewy brownie, then you will LOVE this recipe.  Make World’s Fudgiest Brownies and let me know what you think.
